Cadets attend RAeS Global Hawk Lecture
By Flt Lt D. Ratcliffe Surrey Wing ATC
Last Update: 10/05/2006 17:13:13 Northrop Grumman executives gave staff and cadets from the London & SE Region a fascinating insight into the power and versatility of its UAV Global Hawk when they attended the Inaugural Langley Lecture at The Royal Aeronautical Society recently. Sir Colin Terry, President of the RAeS spoke with the group during a Reception afterwards and the cadets were able to find out even more about being a "desk pilot" of a UAV from an expert. Global Hawk can fly at 50,000 feet, regardless of the weather and it can scan an area of 40,000 square miles in a 24 hour period. It has a 130ft wing span, almost as long as the fuselage of a 747. The large dome at the front houses a huge radar screen. Pictures with Sir Colin Terry are, from left to right -
Flying Officer Trishia Welsh (Sussex Wing Media & Comms Officer), Adult Sergeant Rose Atherton (54 (Eastbourne Squadron), Mr David Harris, Cadet FS Chris Leeding (54(Eastbourne) Sqn), Sir Colin Terry, Sgt Danny Smith (19(Crawley) Sqn), Cpl Hart, Cdt Songhurst, Cdt Guthrie and Cdt Harris.
