323 Navigate to Victory

Last Update: 14/03/2009 19:44:40 Cadets from 323 (Epsom and Ewell) Squadron navigated their way to first place in both the junior and senior categories of the new format South Downs Trophy. The annual competition is a test of navigation skills open to Squadrons in Surrey Wing. This year the competition was in the form of an orienteering event held at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield. It was split into three age categories, basic (13 to 14.5 years), junior (14.5 to 16 years) and senior (16+) each with a team of two cadets from each squadron. Cadets Fenwick and Mothershaw won the junior category for 323 Sqn with a time of 108:42 a clear 22 minutes in front of Cross and Phillips of 1268 (Haslemere) Sqn at 130:03 mins. Cadets Razik and Goggins finished in the same position for 323 Sqn in the senior category with a time of 176:40 mins, followed by the two cadets Iliffe of 328 (Kingston) Squadron. The basic category was won by 350 (Carshalton & Wallington) Sqn with cadets Wilkie and O Conner (86:44 mins), with 1349 (Woking ) Squadron coming in as runners-up with Cadets Edgerton and Smith (92:15) Related Internet Links
