SURREY SWIM TO SUCCESS

A team of swimmers from Surrey Wing Air Cadets beat off teams from five other Wings to be crowned Champions for the third year running at the London & South East Region swimming gala.

The Surrey team had the advantage of swimming in the familiar waters of the Guildford Spectrum, and made it count, finishing 52 points ahead of runners-up London Wing.

The win was founded in the Junior races with the under 16s in both the boys and girls competitions finishing first or second in 13 out of the 14 races in these categories. The seniors did their bit too with five more wins to add to the tally.

A special mention has to go to Cdt Rosling of 1349 (Woking) Squadron, who medalled in all of her events in the Junior Girls categories; Backstoke, breaststroke, individual medley and as a member of the medley relay team. For this outstanding achievement she was awarded a Wing Sports Officers Certificate of Commendation.

Flt Lt Ratcliffe, Surrey Wing Sports Officer said, "The Surrey team really was in a league of its own dominating the event totally. The only challenge for the Wing was to beat the results from the previous two years and take home more trophies. The cadets were completely focused and tackled the huge task of improving on the last two years results with remarkable calm and determination."
