CADET STRIKES GOLD

An Air Cadet from Camberley's Squadron has won Gold whilst running for the National Air Training Corps team. 15 Year old Cadet Ben Bushell completed a very successful year representing every level of the Air Training Corps and winning medals at each event in only his second year as a Air Cadet.

This started in May when he represented Camberley Squadron at the SurreyWing Athletics meet, winning Gold in both the 100 m and 200 m, and a Bronzeas part of the 4 x 100 m relay. Then in June he represented Surrey Wing atthe London & South East Region Meet, where he struck gold again in the samesprint events.

With his neck still aching from carrying all that Gold he went on to run forLondon & South East Region at the National Air Training Corps athletics meetat the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering, Cosford nearWolverhampton. Here running against the cream of the Air Cadet Organisationfrom across the UK, he managed to add a silver medal (100 m) and a bronze(200m) to his collection. But this could have been Gold again with a photofinish for the 100 m, both competitors running a time of 11.9 seconds.

These results got Ben, who also runs for Aldershot, Farnham & DistrictAthletics Club, selection to run for the Air Training Corps at aninvitational meet against Athletics clubs from Stratford, Tamworth andDudley & Stourbridge. Here it was gold again in the 100 m with a winningtime of 12.01 seconds, a new track record for this meeting. Another Bronzein the 200 m completed a very successful season for Cdt Bushell with animpressive tally of nine medals and a complete set of representative"blues".
