ATC CADETS FROM 18F WIMBLEDON SQUADRON MAKE AN IMPRESSION ON LOCAL CHURCHES

Air Training Corps (ATC) Cadets from 18 Wimbledon Squadron were very much in evidence this Christmas as they took part in church services in their local area.

This continues a tradition begun two years ago when they first became involved with activities at St John the Divine on High Path, South Wimbledon and Christ Church, Colliers Wood.

Over the past two years the cadets have joined church members at St John’s to put up and decorate their tree, something much appreciated by the congregation who welcome the vitality and enthusiasm of the young people. This year, a number of the cadets took part in a sketch on the Mary and Joseph and Elizabeth and Zechariah reaction to the news that their respective partners were both having "unexpected” deliveries. Members of their families were there to support them.

At the Carol Service held at Christ Church, two cadets read passages of Scripture and joined the choir in the singing of traditional and modern hymns and carols. The Chair of the Civilian Committee, Mrs Leslie Sellers and three staff members also attended the Carol Service.

The Revd. Hannah Neale, the Squadron’s Chaplain and a Priest in both churches was very pleased with the glowing tributes paid to the cadets.

"They were a delight to have with us”. " They really got into their parts and seemed to enjoy being with us”. "You hear such awful things about young people today, it’s good to meet young people who demonstrate commitment and respect for themselves and their communities”. "With youngsters like these there is hope for the future”.

Cadets taking part in this years activities were: Sergeant Kilroy, Corporals McHale & Wilson, Cadets Franklyn, Rodrigez, White, Willis. They were given much support and encouragement by the Staff and other cadets.
