Last Update: 09/11/2006 19:11:19 On a day that started with flooding and torrential downpours but developed into a heat wave Surrey Wing Air Cadets held its annual Foot Drill competition open to all 28 squadrons in the wing. The cup known as the Croydon Times Cup is fought for every year for the best squadron in foot drill in Surrey Wing. At the end of the day the winners were 1924 Shirley Squadron beating 97 Croydon into second place by half a point 658 to 657.5 Both squadrons were of exceptional standard and showed great skill and understanding of drill movements. Flt. Lt Kate Silver Commanding Officer of 1924 said "I am proud of the cadets and the staff that have trained them, its difficult to keep focused when you have won the cup for seven years but they all worked hard and we achieved it this year by the narrowest of margins. We have a real challenge on next year. The win means the cadets will in the next two weeks compete in the London and South East Regional finals to see if they progress to the national finals. The cadets all enjoyed the day and are pictured with the Croydon Cup shortly after it was presented by Air Vice Marshal C. Evans. Related Internet Links
