Nijmegen is a city in Holland where a famous endurance-walking event takes place each year. Over forty thousand people from all over the world participate in the 100-mile road march over 4 days. Think you can complete the toughest cadet endurance event? Read on to find out how to sign up.

Military participants (including cadets) stay in a temporary military camp and march to and from there each day in uniform. The route is lined for most of the way with spectators and each town passed through is alive with crowds, food stalls and bands. Nijmegen city centre has a friendly international atmosphere on the evening of the last day when it is filled with the thousands of celebrating participants wearing their hard earned medals. Military participants must be over 16 years of age.

The RAF 2-day event takes place in April and is a compulsory qualification event for those wishing to be part of a British military team. Teams are required to walk 50 miles over 2 days and live in similarly cramped conditions as those in Holland. Successful; participants are awarded a medal with a ribbon in the colours of the RAF stable belt.

This year I am once again asking for advance notice of interested participants so that accurate planning and bookings can be made in good time.

Please observe the following:













  1. There is a limit to the maximum number of cadets that can be safely trained. In the unlikely event that there are more than this applying, some younger cadets will be asked to wait until the following year. This may mean that some cadets who successfully completed Nijmegen in previous years will be unable to participate next year.







  2. It may not be possible to take everyone to Holland irrespective of their age, fitness or experience.







  3. Each training weekend costs £15 and is payable in advance.







  4. The RAF 2-day event is likely to cost £35 and is compulsory for those who wish to be in the official wing team(s) in Holland.







  5. It may not be possible to accommodate at short notice, those who have not paid for training weekend 2 weeks in advance.
