Brooklands Cadets Flying High with British Airways

Last Update: 06/10/2006 13:54:38 On the evening of September 28th 2006, Brooklands Squadron hosted Captain John Tye and Parents for the squadron awards evening and to announce the opening of the new flight simulator which was funded by the British Airways Community Volunteering Awards scheme. Flight Lieutenant Malcolm Carter, Officer Commanding of Brooklands Squadron who works for British Airways World Cargo said "This Flight Simulator provides the squadron with an invaluable training aid for cadets attending Air Experience Flying allowing them to make the best of the real flight time and in teaching the principles of flight using the simulator for demonstrations” The flight simulator is based around Windows XP and Flight Simulator 2004 and provides the squadron with the ability to fly all types of Aircraft including those in the BA fleet. Most popular is the Grob Tutor which they can get to fly for real with the Air Cadets as part of Air Experience Flying provided by the Royal Air Force. After the Awards ceremony, Captain Tye demonstrated a familiarisation flight and a circuit at London Heathrow departing runway 9L in the SSTSIM Concorde Simulator. He carried out noise abatements procedures and demonstrated the use of navigation aids while flying over Brooklands before landing back at London Heathrow. Captain John Tye is a former Concorde Senior First Officer and now flies the Airbus A319 and A320. His daughter is a former member of Brooklands Squadron. British Airways have a long association with Brooklands squadron and have been a squadron supporter as part of the Community Volunteering Awards scheme.. Brooklands Squadron have an association with Brooklands museum which is the final home of Delta Golf the preproduction Concorde and the location where a large proportion of the airframe was manufactured.
